Special Features
The collar shall consist of a strap fitted with an attachment point for a leash, and a buckle for attaching the collar and adjusting the fit. The attachment of the buckle to the collar shall be arranged to prevent the dogs skin from being pinched while the collar is fastened. The collar design shall incorporate a keeper to retain the excess strap material following adjustment. The collar shall be fabricated of splice-free lengths of material at least 1 inch wide. Single ply or double ply construction is acceptable. The collar adjustment shall accommodate necks from 14 to 28 inches in circumference. Collars adujstable to larger and/or smaller sizes in addition to the specified range are acceptable.
General Description
The collar shall be designed and constructed to fit around the dogs neck above the shoulders and provide the handler a means to manually restrain and control the dog.The collar shall be capable of withstanding the dynamic load imparted by stopping a moving mass having kenetic energy of at least 120 foot-pounds without failure or damage including: fracture or permanent deformation of the leash attachment point or the buckle; release of the buckle; tearing or other damage to the collar material; and failure of or damage to joints (e.G. Broken stiches or separation of other bonds). The load shall be applied at the attachment point in a plane parallel to the circumference of the collar and perpendicular to the centerline of the collar; and shall be directed away from the center of the collar at the attachment point.
