Schedule B Export Code

A ten position numeric code that identifies an item exported overseas. This unique identification code is assigned by the U.S. Census bureau.

Secondary Inventory Control Activity Level Of Authority

A code that identifies the levels of authority of a secondary inventory control activity (SICA). The code indicates /1/ logistics material management, /2/ level of reponsibility and /3/ basis of categorization. The codes will be used internally within the system for statistics and general management data based on material management responsibility assigned by services/agencies directives. A code that identifies a supply control activity responsible for controlling stock levels and maintaining item accountability when supply support is furnished by a different service or agency or, in the case of defense supply centers, responsible for residual supply management actions not transferred to the general services administration /gsa/. Serial Number Control Code

A one position numeric code which identifies whether or not an item of supply is subject to serial number control. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 150.

Service/agency Designator Code

A twenty position alpha code designated by the military services or a federal agency that a national stock number (NSN) is accepted as a substitute for the item identified by the reference number. A=army, c=coast guard, d=defense logistics agency, f=air force, g=general services administration, m=marine corps, n=navy, o=other DOD , t=federal aviation administration, and v=other civil agencies. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 154.

Shelf Life Code

A one position alphanumeric code that indicates the storage time period or perishability of an item. Type I indicates an individual item of supply which is determined through an evaluation of technical test data and/or actual experience to be an item with a definite non-extendible period of shelf-life. Type ii indicates an individual item of supply having an assigned shelf-life time period that may be extended after completion of inspection, test, or restorative action. In accordance with DA PAM 708-2, table 3-36 and DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 50.

Size Of Business Code

Source Of Supply (SOS) Code

A three position alphanumeric code or routing identifier code (RIC), which identifies the source of supply activity. In accordance with DA PAM 708-2, table 3-37 and DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, tables 59 and 103.

Special Handling Code

A one position alphanumeric code for all shipments via water to identify the exception handling required for cargo included within the shipment unit. A numeric code indicates single handling condition. An alpha code indicates mixed handling requirements. In accordance with DOD 4100.3-m, volume 10, table 83.

Special Marking Code

A two position alphanumeric code that identifies the special markings applied to the container, which is part of the total pack to protect the contained item during preservation, packing, storage, transit and removal from the pack. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 182 and MIL-STD-2073-1E, appendix j, table j.x.

Special Material Content Code

A one position alphanumeric code that indicates that an item represents or contains peculiar material requiring special treatment, precautions, or management control of the item. In accordance with navsup p-485, volume ii, appendix 9, part V and DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 102.

Special Material Identification Code (SMIC)

A two position alphanumeric code, which categorizes material on the basis of requirements for source or quality control, technical design or configuration control, procurement, stocking and issue control, special receipt, inspection, testing, storage, or handling. In accordance with navsup p-485, volume ii, appendix 14 and DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 60.

Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) Date

A five position numeric date that indicates the date of the SPI. The first two positions indicate the year, followed by a three position julian date. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 182 and MIL-STD-2073-1E, appendix e, table e.iv.

A ten position alphanumeric number that identifies a specific SPI, which is provided by the packaging design activity. The first position will contain one of the following: a=army; d=dla; f=air force; m=marine corps; or n=navy. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 182 and MIL-STD-2073-1E, appendix e, table e.iv.

Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) Revision

A one position alpha code that identifies the version of the SPI. Code begins with the letter a for the first revision, then proceeding through the alphabet for each succeeding revision. The letters i, o, q, s, X and Z shall not be used. In accordance with DOD 4100.39-m, volume 10, table 182 and MIL-STD-2073-1E, appendix e, table e.iv.
